Durham police yesterday said a 15-year-old male suffered serious injuries after being stabbed at a Whitby cinema.
On Sunday, October 25 at about 12:40 am, officers from Central West Division responded to Landmark Cinemas, located at 75 Consumers Drive, for an armed person call.
This is the second stabbing at the same location by four suspects. Mid-October, police said it was seeking four men for a stabbing at a Whitby cinema (see below).
On Sunday, officers arrived and located a 15-year-old male suffering from a significant laceration.
Investigators determined the victim attended the theatre to meet a female he knew through social media.
Demanded Victim’s Jacket
While at the theatre, he was approached by a group of youth, who demanded the victim give them his jacket. When he refused to surrender his belongings, one of the suspects produced a machete, struck the victim in the arm, and then the group assaulted him before stealing his jacket and cash.
The victim was treated at the scene by police and paramedics before being transported to a local-area hospital. His injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
Investigators have identified four youth believed to be involved, including a 15-year-old male from Oshawa, a 17-year-old male from Pickering, and a 13-year-old female from Oshawa and an unknown male suspect.
Arrest warrants have been issued for two of the four involved parties.
This is believed to be an isolated incident and the investigation remains ongoing.
