219 recoveries outpace 144 new covid cases

Durham Health Covid-19 statistics for the first three days of the new year show two deaths and 465 new cases in the region.

It yesterday posted 144 cases for January 3 bringing the region’s tally to 7,934 since the count began on February 29. Another 45 cases are under investigation.

One new non-LTCH Covid-19 death in Ajax has been added for January 2, taking the month’s toll to two. December saw 53 deaths and November five.

Recoveries stand at 6,777, up by 219. There are 915 active covid cases.

There were:

  • 47 new cases in Pickering
  • 43 in Ajax
  • 25 in Whitby
  • 23 in Oshawa
  • 16 in Clarington
  • 4 in Scugog, and
  • One in Uxbridge

Forty-one cases are hospitalized with 12 in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 874 people in home isolation.

Total death toll is at 242 with 202 in long term care homes (LTCHs).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 2,320 in Ajax.

Of the 92 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 44 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-four deaths were reported in Whitby, 29 in LTCH
Of the 43 reported deaths in Oshawa, 34 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
