Snow was to taper off Sunday night but was likely to leave icy and slippery roads for the Monday November 10 commuters.
Environment Canada had issued a special weather alert for November 9 and 10 mornings for the Durham Region.
There has been significant snowfall accumulations that have been reported across much of the region particularly on elevated and grassy surfaces.
Although the snowfall intensity has mostly decreased as of late Sunday afternoon, icy and slippery road conditions are likely as temperatures continue to drop, said Environment Canada.
It warned that motorists should expect difficult winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.
