911 call by trafficking victim leads to man’s arrest

Durham Police yesterday said a Mississauga man has been charged in a Human Trafficking investigation.

On Thursday, October 22, police officers visited a Pickering address regarding a 911 call. Officers located a 22-year-old female victim who disclosed she was being held captive and forced to work in the sex trade. The accused was arrested on scene.

Nitharshan Elansooriyanathan, age 30, of Bloor Street East in Mississauga, has been charged with: Sexual Assault; Sexual Assault with Choking; Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration; Advertising Sexual Services; Material Benefit from Sexual Services; Procuring/Exercise Control; Material Benefit from Trafficking Person; and Trafficking in Persons by Exercising Control. He was held for a bail hearing

Investigators want to ensure there are no further victims and are asking anyone with new information is asked to contact D/Cst. Chapman of the Human Trafficking Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5604.
