Project Verona in Ajax; shots fired in Oshawa

Durham Police investigators have arrested two suspects after a seizure of drugs, a loaded firearm and currency at the conclusion of Project Verona.

On March 10, members from the East Division Community Response Team, with the assistance of the Drug Enforcement Unit, Tactical Support Unit, West Division Community Response Team and Central West Community Response Team, executed three separate search warrants for residences in Ajax, Whitby and Toronto. During the search warrants, investigators seized a loaded firearm with ammunition, approximately $25,000 in cash, high-end jewelry, as well as cocaine and fentanyl worth an estimated $25,000, said a police statement.

Abeeku Arhin, age 27 of Garrard Road in Whitby, is facing numerous charges including: Breach of Prohibition Orderx 2; Careless Storage of a Firearm; Contravention of Storage Regulations; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; Unauthorized Possession Knowing it is Unauthorized; Possession of a Loaded Prohibited/Restricted Firearm; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000; Possession of Proceeds of Crime and Possession of Schedule I for Purpose of Trafficking x2.

Shaquille Francis, age 28 of Shipp Crescent, in Ajax is charged with: Careless Storage of a Firearm; Contravention of Storage Regulations; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; Unauthorized Possession of Firearm Knowing it is Unauthorized; Possession of a Loaded Prohibited/Restricted Firearm; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 x2; Possession of Schedule I for Purpose of Trafficking x2;

They were both held for a bail hearing.

Shots fired in Oshawa

Police are investigating after multiple shots were fired on a residential street in north Oshawa Thursday evening. No injuries were reported.

On March 11 at about 7 pm, members of Central West Division were dispatched to a residence in the area of Britannia Avenue East and Bridle Road in Oshawa for shots fired. Officers arrived and discovered several vehicles parked in the driveways of the residences that had been damaged by stray bullets. The occupants inside the residences were not injured.
