Cyclist seriously injured, car driver stays at scene

A 63-year-old Oshawa male was seriously injured Monday after being struck by a motor vehicle while riding his bicycle on King Street East near Central Park Blvd. in Oshawa.

On Monday August 1 at about 6:54 am, officers from Central East Division were called to serious motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a cyclist. A red Kia Forte was eastbound on King Street East from Ritson Road when it struck a cyclist on the roadway. The cyclist was thrown from his bicycle and was seriously injured, said a police statement.

The 54-year-old driver of the involved Kia remained on scene and was not injured in the collision.

Durham E.M.S. attended the scene and provided medical assistance to the cyclist. He was taken to Sunnybrook Health Science Centre in Toronto for treatment and is currently listed in critical condition.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
