GO train extension geotech works to end December

Beginning as early as July 16th, Peto MacCallum and its drilling subcontractor, was to be working at 135 sites along the planned GO train extension alignment to conduct geotechnical investigations.

Works are scheduled to last until December.

These investigations are required to confirm geotechnical conditions at critical locations to help inform the design of future infrastructure upgrades that will improve transit in your community, said a Metrolinx notice.

It said the Bowmanville Extension will extend Lakeshore East GO rail service nearly 20-kilometres east of the Durham College Oshawa GO Station to Bowmanville, serving the Region of Durham.

Expanded rail service will provide Durham Region with direct connections to the larger GO Transit network, helping to reduce congestion in the Greater Golden Horseshoe while better connecting customers to education, family, entertainment, and jobs.

Work is taking place Monday to Friday, between 8 am and 5 pm.

Where needed, traffic control measures and personnel will be set up to assist with directing traffic. Full road closures are not anticipated as part of this work, Metrolinx added.
