Dispose off your unwanted items on Environment Days

The Region of Durham, in partnership with area municipalities, is inviting residents to take part in upcoming Environment Days, events designed to promote reuse, recycling, and the safe disposal of household materials.

Environment Days are scheduled as follows:

  • Saturday, August 16 from 8 am to noon at Clarington Operations Depot 42 (178 Darlington-Clarke Townline Road, Bowmanville)
  • Saturday, September 6 from 8 am to noon at Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex (1867 Valley Farm Road, Pickering)
  • Saturday, September 20 from 8 am to noon at Uxbridge Seniors Centre (75 Marietta Street, Uxbridge)

The events will take place rain or shine.

According to Durham region, the initiative supports a circular economy by recovering value from resources through repair, reuse, and recycling before they are discarded.

Accepted items

Residents can bring:

  • Clean, dry, and odourless textiles, including clothing, shoes, and bedding
  • Small household items and sporting goods in working condition

A full list of acceptable donations is available at durham.ca/WasteEvents. Items not accepted by charities must be removed by residents and disposed of through regular waste facilities. Standard fees may apply.

Electronics and hazardous waste accepted

Environment Days also accept electronic waste, such as computers, phones, televisions, cameras, and audio/video equipment. The region reminds participants to erase personal data from devices before drop-off.

Household hazardous waste—including motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, medication, and cooking oil—can also be brought for safe disposal. These items are managed to prevent harmful substances from entering the environment. Commercial or industrial waste will not be accepted.

Residents are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to local food banks. Food donations must be unopened, undamaged, and unexpired.
