Second suspect in Durham’s ninth murder of 2025 also held

Durham police have arrested the second suspect in Durham’s ninth homicide of 2025.

On Tuesday, December 23 at about 4:15 am, members of Central East Division responded to a call in the area of Park Road South and John Street in Oshawa. A male victim, identified as 44-year-old Jeremy Russell, was located on the roadway suffering from stab wounds. He was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre in life-threatening condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The same day, investigators identified and arrested the first suspect.

On Friday, December 26, the second suspect, age 44 from Oshawa, was taken into custody by Peterborough Regional Police in connection with a separate homicide investigation. On Monday, January 5, the DRPS homicide unit took custody of the second suspect and charged him with Second Degree Murder. He has been held for a bail hearing.
