Durham police issued yet another statement yesterday on the lawyer Sudine Riley case saying Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has been advised that the allegations related to the arrest extend beyond claims of misconduct and include allegations that are criminal in nature.
In anticipation of this possibility, DRPS had already contacted the York Regional Police, should their investigative services be required.
“In light of the new information, DRPS has now formally referred the matter to the York Regional Police for a criminal investigation,” said a statement.
In addition, given the Inspector General of Ontario’s oversight role with respect to police boards and chiefs, the DRPS have been in contact with the Inspector General and have kept them informed of the steps taken to date.
