Additional Oshawa, Whitby, Scugog reopenings

As of Tuesday, September 8, three additional Oshawa recreation facilities will open for limited access and use.

These areCivic Recreation Complex, Donevan Recreation Complex and Northview Community Centre, said a city statement.

Recreation facilities: With additional facilities reopening, operating hours have been adjusted for all facilities as of Tuesday, September 8, 2020 as noted below:

Use of the indoor pools, indoor tracks, tennis courts and fitness centres are by appointment only in order to ensure health and safety protocols. Community members who would like to book an appointment are asked to register at register.oshawa.ca or call 905-436-3311. For more information, visit www.oshawa.ca/reopeningrecreation.

To book ice at Delpark Homes Centre, please contact the Facility Booking Office. Additionally, ice is available at the Tribute Communities Centre for on-ice instruction to specific sport affiliations and organizations. Ice is not yet available for booking at Donevan Recreation Complex.

Northview Community Centre will only reopen for use by OSCC55+ Oshawa Senior Community Centres Northview Branch and Boys and Girls Clubs of Durham Northview Unit. The Delpark Homes Centre Branches of the OSCC55+ Oshawa Senior Community Centres and Oshawa Public Libraries are also now open. Please visit our partners’ websites for additional information related to hours of operation and COVID-19 health and safety.

Public health protocols are in place in city recreation facilities, including screening upon entry and plexiglass barriers installed at front counters.

Community members are asked to:

  • Enter and exit facilities through the designated locations, please visit www.oshawa.ca/reopeningrecreation for additional information related to facility entrance and exit points.
  • Queue outside of the recreation facility to visit the designated screening area, respond to screening questions and provide contact information
  • Wear a mask or face covering (with the exception of those who have health, respiratory and sensory issues, various disabilities; are unable to remove the mask without assistance; and, children under the age of two)
  • Maintain physical distancing from others and adhere to physical distancing markers
  • Follow directional arrows located on the floor
  • Use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting the building
  • Sign out when exiting the building

City Hall: City Hall is open to the public by appointment only for many City services. To book an appointment, please call Service Oshawa at 905-436-3311 during regular operating hours (8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday on business days). For information on how to contact Members of Council directly, visit www.oshawa.ca/councilmembers.

Community members requiring in-person service at City Hall are asked to:

  • Enter and exit through the main entrance (located across from The Robert McLaughlin Gallery and adjacent to the Arts Resource Centre)
  • Upon entering, wait to respond to screening questions and provide contact information
  • Wear a mask or face covering for the duration of your visit (with the exception of those who have health, respiratory and sensory issues, various disabilities; are unable to remove the mask without assistance; and children under the age of two)
  • Maintain physical distancing from others and adhere to physical distancing markers
  • Follow directional arrows located on the floor
  • Use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting the building
  • Sign out when exiting the building

The city is also booking civil marriage ceremonies at City Hall. Civil marriage ceremonies take place in the Council Chamber with ceremony times available on Friday afternoons and Saturdays. To learn more, call Service Oshawa at 905-436-3311 or visit www.oshawa.ca/getmarried.

Sports fields: The city is accepting sports fields permit applications for team play provided participants adhere to the Province’s emergency orders, health authority guidelines and follow the guidelines of their governing sport organizations.

Whitby

Civic Recreation Complex Health Club and Anne Ottenbrite Pool to reopen September 8 by appointment, according to the Town of Whitby.

Community Centres

Whitby Civic Recreation Complex Health Club and Anne Ottenbrite Pool

On Tuesday, September 8, both the Whitby Civic Recreation Complex Health Club and the Anne Ottenbrite Pool (located at Iroquois Park Sports Centre) will reopen to the public by appointment only. Starting Thursday, September 3, residents wishing to book an appointment to work out in the health club or public swim in the pool can visit whitby.ca/getactive.

New health and safety measures will be in place and must be followed by all who enter the facilities. Some amenities within the health club and pool will remain closed to ensure resident and staff safety. Other Community Centres

At this time, all other community centres remain closed to the general public. Limited space at some Whitby community centres continues to be open for private bookings. Groups interested in booking a space can email facilities@whitby.ca or call 905.668.7765 to learn more about space availability.

The town thanked residents for their patience and said it will continue to provide updates about next steps to reopening as they are confirmed.

Fall Session of Recreation Programming: In late-September, registration will open for a condensed fall session of the Town’s recreation programming. The session will offer a mix of both virtual and in-person programming, with health and safety measures in place. Additional details will be shared in the coming weeks. Whitby Public Library: Beginning Tuesday, September 8, the Central Library will have updated operating hours and expanded services. The Rossland and Brooklin Branches remain closed but continue to offer contactless pickup by appointment.

Outdoor Special Events: Based on the continuation of provincial gathering limits, all of the Town’s in-person events and town-supported events are cancelled until the end of the year. This includes Doors Open, Christmas in the Village and the Whitby Tree Lighting. The Town is also not accepting any new Special Event Permit applications until 2021.

The town said it is exploring alternative ways to celebrate the holiday season – watch for details to be shared in the coming months.

Scugog

The Township of Scugog will be offering recreation and fitness programs this Fall starting the week of Saturday, September 19.

full listing of Recreation Programs can be viewed online at www.scugog.ca/registration. Registration for recreation and fitness programs opened on Friday, September 4, with the exception of pickleball court reservations, that will open for registration two days prior to the scheduled court time.

New guidelines are in place to protect the safety of all participants and staff.
