The demolition of the Simcoe Street Bridge over the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railway line is now complete, said Metrolinx, the operator of GO Transit.
Metrolinx told Durham Post that crews are now piling the foundations for the new bridge.
The two-year Simcoe Street bridge upgrade is part of the works to extend the GO train line from the City of Oshawa to Bowmanville via Courtice in the Municipality of Clarington (see map below).
Works are also underway at the Green Road bridge in Bowmanville, which too is being widened.

Bowmanville Construction Partners has been awarded the contract for the first phase of construction, with work underway on key infrastructure upgrades, including the replacement of the Simcoe Street bridge, expansion of Green Road bridge, and the Farewell Street pedestrian bridge to support the construction of a new GO track, Metrolinx said.
It said it is expanding and continually improving the GO network to bring faster, more frequent GO service, including extending the Lakeshore East Line by nearly 20 kilometers to Bowmanville, bringing reliable two-way, all-day GO Transit service across Durham Region.
