The Township of Brock yesterday announced the reopening of the Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre in Cannington following the successful completion of significant renovations and infrastructure improvements.
These improvements represent a significant investment in one of Brock Township’s valued recreational facilities and will help ensure a high-quality ice surface and dependable operation for years to come, said the statement.
It did not reveal the value of the ‘significant investment’.
The major revamp was designed to support local ice user groups and ensure the facility continues serving residents for many years to come, said the township.
Skaters, hockey players, ringette players, figure skaters, and community members are being welcomed back to the arena for another season of recreation, competition, and community connection.
The recently completed project focused on modernizing key components of the arena’s ice-making and refrigeration systems to improve efficiency, reliability, and long-term sustainability.
Major upgrades included:
- Installation of a new Low-E ceiling
- Replacement of the main compressor
- Complete overhaul of the arena’s second original compressor
- Replacement of the existing condenser with a new adiabatic condenser
- Replacement of the hot water heater and associated plumbing systems to better support ice making and maintenance operations
“I am excited to see this important capital project be completed on time and below budget. With on ice sports becoming increasingly more sought after, these improvements will be well used and much more efficient. I would like to thank council and staff for delivering yet another successful project, within the Township of Brock, that will support our users for years to come,” said Mayor Mike Jubb.
The township thanked community partners and residents for their patience and support during the renovation period and said it looks forward to a successful season at the renewed Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre.
