The Region of Durham is advising residents and businesses of an upcoming road closure on Liberty Street North (Regional Road 14) in the Municipality of Clarington. The entire project is expected to be finished by spring 2028.
It said the first phase closure will take place from September 9 to December 31. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.
The closure will take place on Liberty Street North, from Longworth Avenue to Bons/Freeland Avenue, in the Municipality of Clarington. Traffic will be detoured onto Longworth Avenue, Bowmanville Avenue (Regional Road 57) and Taunton Road (Regional Road 4), the region said.
It said this work is part of road reconstruction, installation of sewer collection and watermain distribution systems, and the construction of a new roundabout.
It said businesses in the area will remain open throughout the duration of the construction.
Upcoming Lane Restrictions in Newcastle
The region also advised residents of lane restrictions on North Street (Regional Road 17) in the community of Newcastle in the Municipality of Clarington.
These will be during daytime from September 15 to December 31. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule.
The impacted area is North Street, from 200 metres north of Grady Drive to 370 metres south of Concession Road 3, in Newcastle.
Lane restrictions are needed to safely construct a multi-use walkway and place surface asphalt in support of new development.
The region said it realizes that the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
