The Municipality of Clarington yesterday said its biggest-ever destination for sports is set to open its doors.
Renamed the Bowmanville Community Complex, the facility will host a community open house on October 3 from 1 to 5 pm. The new name replaces the old South Bowmanville Recreation Centre.
The complex is located in south Bowmanville on Baseline Road and the new parking lot is accessible from Green Road.
The Facilities
The complex amenities include a new FIFA-sized multi-sport dome and indoor walking track, which will open on October 3. Users can register for fall programs, and enjoy interactive activities and giveaways for the whole family.
The municipality said regular programming and rentals begin Tuesday, October 13.
It said finishing touches on additional spaces in the main building are on and it will soon announce new programs for the gymnasium and multi-purpose rooms.
One of Ontario’s Longest Skating Trails
The opening of the outdoor refrigerated skating trail will follow, becoming the first of its kind in Durham Region and one of the longest in Ontario, the municipality claimed.
It said in 2027, the highly anticipated Aquatics Centre will be ready to welcome residents, along with additional multi-purpose rooms, and the existing lacrosse bowl will reopen.
