Ajax bar patrons exchange shots… gun shots

No injuries were reported after several patrons of an Ajax bar began shooting at each other in the parking lot on Thursday night.

On August 29 at approximately 11:40 pm, a group of males and females came out of the Rum Diaries Restaurant and Lounge on Bayly Street West in Ajax and gathered in the parking lot. Multiple shots were fired and then several vehicles left the area.

One vehicle of interest was seen travelling south on Brock Road to Highway 401. A police vehicle in the area began following the vehicle strategically, without being seen. Both the OPP and Toronto Police were notified and asked to assist.

Fled on Foot

The vehicle was followed to Finch Avenue and Driftwood Avenue in Toronto, where uniformed officers activated emergency equipment and engaged in a brief pursuit. The vehicle ended up at Driftwood Avenue and Futura Drive, where three individuals got out of the vehicle and ran away. Officers pursued but were unable to catch them.

Back at the site of the shooting, 11 shell casings were located in the parking lot of Rum Diaries and one round travelled south and lodged in a business across the street. Area hospitals were checked and no injuries were reported.
