Ajax road death suspect driver flees but not very far

A 29-year-old male faces numerous charges after fleeing a fatal motor-vehicle collision in Ajax Saturday morning, said Durham Police.

On November 27 at about 3:14 am, members of West Division responded to the intersection of Kingston Road and Harwood Avenue for a report of a serious motor-vehicle collision involving a blue Honda Accord and a black Chevrolet pick-up truck. The 73-year-old female passenger of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene, said a police statement.

The 40-year-old female driver of the Honda was transported to a Toronto trauma center with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the stolen pick-up, a 29-year-old male of Pickering fled the scene but was located and arrested by police shortly after, it added.

Jason Selig of Sheppard Avenue in Pickering was charged with: Impaired Operation of a Conveyance Fatality; Impaired Operation of a Conveyance Bodily Harm; Leave Accident Scene Fail to Give Name Fatality; Leave Accident Scene Fail to Give Name Bodily Harm; Operation While Impaired – Exceed; Theft of Motor Vehicle and Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence.

He was held for a bail hearing.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
