On Nov 5th, DRPS advised the public on their official X account about one report of tampered candy that was passed out on Halloween. The count is now up to two.
Police are investigating the two reports following discoveries made by families after trick-or-treating on Oct. 31.
In Ajax, a family discovered a small piece of wire embedded inside a packaged gummy candy collected in the Rossland Road West and Church Street North area. The family could not determine where the candy was received. No injuries were reported.
In a separate incident in Pickering, a family discovered a sewing needle while sorting Halloween candy collected in the Sultana Square, Foxwood Trail and Braeburn Crescent area. The needle was found loose among the collected candy and was not located inside any candy or chip packaging. No injuries were reported.
Police seized the items and the investigations remain ongoing to determine how the foreign objects became associated with the Halloween candy.
Police remind parents and guardians to inspect all Halloween candy before it is consumed and to report any suspicious items to police.
