Amazon opens delivery station in Whitby

The Town of Whitby has announced that Amazon has opened a new delivery station in the community.

The 354,000 square-foot facility, located at 1555 Wentworth Street in south Whitby, opened earlier this week and will create hundreds of new, permanent, full-time and part-time jobs, said a town statement.

“On behalf of Whitby Council, I am pleased to welcome Amazon to our town,” said Mayor Don Mitchell. “This new delivery station brings with it hundreds of new jobs for our residents, helping to keep our local economy strong. It’s great that Amazon chose Whitby as a place to grow their business.”

Delivery stations like this new facility power the last mile of Amazon’s order fulfillment process, and are an integral part of the distribution chain. Packages are transported to delivery stations from Amazon fulfillment and sort centers, and then loaded into vehicles for delivery to customers.

“With a highly skilled workforce and close access to Toronto and two 400-series highways, our growing community is the ideal place for companies to locate,” said Sarah Klein, Director of Strategic Initiatives. “The fact that Amazon chose Whitby as the site of their next project highlights the fact that we are a great place to live, work and do business.”
