Oshawa: About 200 playground participants, along with members of City Council, Their Opportunity representatives and city staff, gathered on Thursday to celebrate another successful year of the City of Oshawa’s Playground Program in partnership with Their Opportunity.
The event took place at the Civic Recreation Complex and featured special activities, games, and camp cheers for children to enjoy.
For more than 40 years, the annual summer Playground Program has provided fun and exciting play opportunities for school-aged children. This year, the free drop-in program was held at 16 City’s parks in partnership with Their Opportunity. Led by trained camp leaders, participants had fun and stayed active by participating in games, activities, crafts and songs.
“Some of the happiest times children have is in the joyous play on a summer’s day with other children. Meeting new friends, sharing laughs and creativity, and getting all that fresh air will bring memories that won’t soon be forgotten. (Psst! It’s good for Mums and Dads, too!),” said Councillor Rick Kerr, Chair of the Community Services Committee.
“Many thanks to city staff and Their Opportunity for running another successful Playground Program this summer. Getting active and getting outdoors is so important, especially for our kids at a time when there is more and more competition with electronic devices for their attention,” said Councillor Derek Giberson, Vice-Chair of the Community Services Committee.
