Armed robbers strike at Whitby jeweler, but…

Three suspects were arrested for an armed robbery of a jeweler in Whitby last Wednesday, according to Durham Police..

On October 30 at 9:00 am, members of Central West Division responded to an armed robbery at a residence near Taunton Road and Country Lane in Whitby. The victim was about to get into his vehicle when two unknown suspects approached him, one of the males struck him in the face. The suspects took his cell phone, and a large amount of jewelry from the vehicle. The suspects fled on foot to a nearby getaway vehicle, police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Robbery investigators were able to identify the suspects and on Wednesday evening. Omoniyi and Akinwamide were arrested in Toronto. A search warrant was executed at a residence on Van Horne Avenue on the same day.

On Friday, November 1, a third suspect (Brown) was arrested in Oshawa. Some of the stolen items were recovered.

Mayowa Omoniyi, age 27 of Van Horne Avenue in Toronto, Mayomi Akinwamide, age 27 of Eglinton Avenue in Toronto and Christoff Brown, age 24 of Scarborough were all charged with: Robbery; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime; Disguise with Intent; Weapons Dangerous and Use Imitation Firearm During Commission of Offence. They were held for a bail hearing.
