Arrest warrant for man who set Oshawa car on fire

Durham Police has issued an arrest warrant for an Oshawa man in connection with a vehicle fire in Oshawa on July 3.

Central East Division Criminal Investigations Bureau has identified James Allen, age 24, of No Fixed Address (Oshawa) as the suspect in this case. He will be charged with Arson with Disregard for Human Life and Mischief Under $5000.

Investigators are asking Allen to contact a lawyer and turn himself in. If you know of the whereabouts of Allen, please contact D/Cst. Kollaard of the Central East Division CIB at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2738, police said.

On July 9, police released a video of the incident in efforts to generate witnesses to come forward. The suspect is depicted approaching the vehicle, pouring an accelerant and then setting it on fire before fleeing on foot.

On Wednesday, July 3 at 2:00 am, members of Central East Division responded to a fire call at a residence on Ritson Road North and Beatrice Street East in Oshawa. Officers arrived to find a Chevrolet Cruze fully engulfed in flames. A second vehicle parked in the driveway had the front tire slashed. The occupants in the residence contacted Oshawa Fire Services who quickly put out the fire. There were no reported injuries.
