Be part of Durham Crime Prevention Week

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has announced it will support Crime Prevention Week with a display in the Pickering Town Centre, upper level, above the food court beside the elevator, from November 4-8.

“The public…are invited to celebrate Crime Prevention Week in Durham Region at the Pickering Town Centre starting Monday,” it said in a statement.

The display will consist of various crime prevention tools and tips on how to prevent crime in Durham neighbourhoods and around the home. DRPS members and volunteers will be there to meet the public and answer questions about crime prevention, personal safety and policing in general.

The theme this year is ‘Preventing Crime, Protecting People’. Crime Prevention Week provides an opportunity to showcase the successful collaborative efforts between police services and community organizations as they work towards preventing crime and creating safe, resilient communities.

This year’s theme enables police services to promote both the benefits of law enforcement response and a holistic community approach to addressing issues related to safety and well-being.

The display will be open daily during mall hours from 10 am to 9 pm.

“Residents are encouraged to come by and discuss any concerns and to pick up some informational brochures,” DRPS said.
