Brampton woman held for human trafficking

Durham Police said a 33-year-old Brampton woman was arrested Wednesday in Brampton in relation to a human trafficking investigation.

In early January 2021, a female victim came forward to the DRPS Human Trafficking Unit and advised that she had met the suspect on a social media platform and the suspect began to traffic her in the sex trade. The suspect would post ads, arrange dates, drive the victims to her calls and then take all of her money. The victim also advised that there were other female victims associated to the suspect, police said.

On March 3, members of the Human Trafficking Unit arrested the suspect in Brampton with the assistance of Peel Regional Police. It is believed that the suspect has ties to the Toronto, Peel, and Durham regions.

Siobhan Ferguson is charged with: Trafficking in Persons by Exercising Control; Material Benefit from Sexual Services; Obtain Sexual Services for Consideration; Advertising Another Person’s Sexual Services; Financial/Material Benefit Trafficking Person Over 18 and Procuring/Exercise Control. She was held for a bail hearing.

Human trafficking investigators are releasing her photo to ensure there are no other victims.

Anyone with new information is asked to contact the Human Trafficking Unit or D/Cst. Belanger of the Human Trafficking Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5602.
