Clarington prepares to face school strikes

Clarington has drawn up plans to help parents find child care in the event of school closures, it announced yesterday.

Camp has been set up and registrations are open.

Participants can take part in games, crafts, activities and more. Parents are being advised to pack a nut-free lunch, extra drinks and dress their children appropriately as some activities may take place outside.

Camp takes place at South Courtice Arena from 8 am to 5 pm on Tuesday, January 28.

Activities may be cancelled if enrollment is low.

French Teachers Strike

Meanwhile, French teachers from the Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens (AEFO) have announcement that they are entering Phase 2 of their work-to-rule strike action.

Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce said: “Students across the province are continuously being hurt by union-led escalation. The withdrawal of services is impacting our students negatively and causing uncertainty and frustration for parents.

“By withdrawing services, Ontario’s students do not get the valuable support they need to be successful in their educational journeys. We continue to call on the teachers’ unions to cease escalation, end these strikes, and focus on reaching a deal that keeps our students in the classroom where they belong.”
