A person was robbed at knifepoint in Oshawa by two teens. The boys fled and the Drone as First Responder (DFR) program was deployed to help locate, track, and contain the suspects, while providing situational awareness to support responding officers.
On Wednesday, August 19, at about 5:45 pm, members of Central East Division responded to a robbery call in the area of Hillcrest Drive and Dean Avenue. The victim arranged to meet the suspect through an online marketplace to purchase a cell phone.
During the exchange, a second suspect approached and threatened the victim at knifepoint while demanding the victim’s wallet. Both suspects fled the area prior to police arrival.
The DFR immediately began searching the surrounding area and located two individuals matching the suspect descriptions entering a nearby vehicle. The DFR tracked the vehicle and provided continuous updates to responding officers until a traffic stop was conducted.
Suspects Flee Stop On Foot
A responding officer initiated a traffic stop and both suspects fled the vehicle on foot. The DFR tracked the suspects through a residential neighbourhood and guided officers to their location, where both were arrested following a brief foot pursuit.
The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.
The suspects are both 14-year-old boys. One is from Oshawa and the other is from Pickering. Both were held for a bail hearing.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Central East Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1705.
