Kars on King returns to downtown Oshawa today Friday, August 21, transforming King Street and the surrounding area into a vibrant showcase of automotive history and family-friendly entertainment.
There will be a number of road closures for the event on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22, including portions of King Street and Bond Street. Increased traffic around the downtown core is anticipated.
Event Highlights
- Entertainment: There will be hundreds of classic vehicles for car enthusiasts, families and visitors to enjoy. There will also be live entertainment on the main stage at the intersection of Bond Street and Simcoe Street, with musical performances scheduled throughout the evening, as well as roaming entertainment and buskers across the downtown.
- Family Activities: Visitors can take part in interactive and kid-friendly programming throughout the event footprint, presented by TD Bank. There will be art activities with LivingRoom Community Art Studio, inflatables, backyard games, face-painting and balloon twisting. There is also a ride down Simcoe Street on a giant zipline, presented by Tribute Communities.
- Food and Beverage: There will be a wide variety of culinary options for purchase from local food trucks throughout the event. There are also many restaurants and eateries in downtown Oshawa.
- Merchandise: There will be a variety of vendors showcasing local artisans, makers, handcrafted products and unique creations, apart from the downtown’s local shops and businesses.
- Additional Attractions: The Touch a Truck experience, presented by Oshawa Power and hosted by Tribute Communities Centre (TCC) will return for its 12th year. It will be open at the TCC between 4 pm to 8 pm with over 40 unique vehicles on display. The Canadian Automotive Museum will be open and showcases some the world’s most significant collection of Canadian cars, including pop culture favourites like Lightning McQueen. The museum will be open from 10 am to 4 pm by regular paid admission, with extended hours until 9 pm by donation.
Kars on King is a free event presented by the City of Oshawa in partnership with the Canadian Automotive Museum, Tribute Communities Centre and Oshawa Tourism with support from community partnerships:TD Bank, OMVIC, Tribute Communities, Durham Radio, Ontario Motor Sales, Ontario Power Generation, Oshawa Community Credit Union and Costco.
