28-year old rollerblader dies while crossing road

A tragedy occurred in the Town of Ajax where a young man died while doing the simple act of crossing a road.

On Tuesday, August 18, at around 8:40 pm, members of West Division responded to a report of a pedestrian struck near Salem Road and Chambers Drive in Ajax.

A 2027 Freightliner, operated by a 60-year-old man, was exiting the westbound Highway 401 off-ramp at Salem Road when it made a right turn and struck a pedestrian on roller blades.

The 28-year-old pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

The driver of the Freightliner remained on the scene and was co-operative with police.

Collision investigators from the Collision Investigation Unit were called and the roadway was closed for several hours to collect evidence and conduct their investigation. The investigation is ongoing. Police would like to hear from any witnesses to this collision, who have not already spoken to police.
