Restaurants, theatres, churches closed in Durham

All dine-in restaurants, bars, nightclubs, theatres, churches, private schools and daycares closed today [March 17], under the orders of Dr. Robert Kyle, Medical Officer of Health for The Regional Municipality of Durham.

Businesses that provide food takeout and delivery options are encouraged to keep those options available to continue to provide the public with food options while limiting social interactions between people.

“The health and wellness of our community continues to be our top priority, and this is a critical time to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Durham Region,” he said in a statement.

“To our community: I recognize that these are unprecedented measures for unprecedented times. We can slow community spread of this virus. I urge everyone to practise social distancing—stay at least two metres away from others and stay home as much as possible. If you have travelled outside of the country, follow the recommendations for self-isolation. Stay cautious, stay informed, and wash your hands frequently,” he added.
