Crash leaves woman dead, two seriously hurt

A north Durham single motor vehicle collision on Tuesday night left a female dead. Two males received serious injuries, police said yesterday.

All three are residents of the Stouffville community.

On June 30 at about 11:15 pm, officers from DRPS North Division were called to a single motor vehicle collision on Webb Road, near the York-Durham Line, close to the town of Whitchurch-Stouffville.

A grey Hyundai Santa Fe was travelling westbound on Webb Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway, striking a large tree.

All three occupants of the Santa Fe were transported to a Toronto trauma centre. An 18-year-old female passenger was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The 17-year-old male driver received serious injuries and remains in critical condition. A second passenger, an 18-year-old male, received less serious injuries and is in stable condition, police said.

Members of the DRPS – Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. Police are investigating the cause of the collision, with speed believed to be a contributing factor.

Anyone with information about this incident or who witnessed this collision is asked to call Detective Constable Bill Scott of the Traffic Services Branch at 905-579-1520 (toll free 1-888-579-1520) ext. 5217.
