Cyclist killed in Whitby collision, road closed

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said a cyclist died shortly after a collision with a vehicle in Whitby.

Around noon yesterday, DRPS tweeted: “Media officer will be heading to the scene of a serious collision near Taunton Road and Baldwin in Whitby involving a cyclist and a vehicle. Updates to follow shortly. Please avoid the area.”

An hour later, another DRPS tweet said: “Media officer will be available at Baldwin St and Canary St in Whitby for any media outlets. The collision is now a fatal investigation. Collision Investigation Unit investigating this incident.

“Members of the Collision Investigation Unit will be looking at the evidence and speaking to witnesses of this fatal collision. Baldwin St closed both directions from 407 to Sonley Dr in Whitby. Expect delays and avoid the area,” it added.
