UPDATE: Dead man found off Frenchman’s Bay

Durham police investigators have identified the male who was found deceased in Lake Ontario on Sunday.

A member of the community contacted investigators after recognizing the key fob and the unknown male has been identified as a 74-year-old Pickering resident.

At this time, there is nothing suspicious about his death, but the investigation is still ongoing, police said.

Investigators would like to thank the public and media for their assistance in this matter.

On Sunday, May 3, at about  12:05 pm, members of West Division responded to the area of Frenchman’s Bay on Lake Ontario for a deceased male found in the water. With the assistance of the Marine Unit, the body was recovered and sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences for a post mortem examination. There were no obvious signs of trauma and investigators have been unable to identify the male, police said.

The deceased is described as white, approximately 70-80 years of age, slim build, 160-180 pounds, approximately 5’10” tall. He has grey/white hair with a bald spot on top and a beard. He was wearing khaki pants, dark maroon checkered shirt, red vest with an Arctic Circle-Alaska’s Dalton Highway crest on the left side, police said.

It said the male may be associated to a submerged 12-foot red aluminum boat which was located in the area.

The death is currently being investigated by the West Division Criminal Investigations Bureau with the support of the Forensic Identification Unit.
