Distraught parent held at Oshawa school

A 45-year-old parent was apprehended after making his way into an Oshawa school, chasing a student and refusing to leave the property on Thursday

On January 16 at 10:45 am, members of Central East Division were called to Corpus Christi Catholic Elementary School in Oshawa for a disturbance.

The suspect was observed by staff praying just outside the school property. He chased a student into the school. The principal removed him from the building but the distraught male refused to leave the property, said a police media release.

All the students were taken inside as a precaution. When officers arrived they located the male who was non-verbal. The male initially refused to listen to the officers commands but was eventually apprehended under the Mental Health Act, it added.

The 45-year-old male was taken to a local hospital to be assessed. None of the students or staff sustained any physical injuries.
