DNA match leads to arrest in 2007 Ajax case

A second suspect in an assault case from 2007 has been arrested and charged as a result of a DNA match.

In August of 2007, People’s Taxi on Finley Avenue in Ajax was robbed by two armed males. One male was arrested, charged and convicted by a jury for his involvement. The second male was never identified.

An item of clothing found at the scene was sent to the Centre of Forensic Sciences (CFS), where a DNA profile was generated. Recently, a match was made and on July 24, 2019 members of Robbery Unit located the accused in Pickering and arrested him without incident.

A 30-year-old Pickering male, who was 18 at the time of the robbery, has been charged with Armed Robbery; Disguise with Intent and Weapons Dangerous. His name is withheld due to privacy legislation.

He was held for a bail hearing.
