Double shooting ups 2020 murder toll to 8

A double shooting left one dead and the suspect with life-threatening injuries in Oshawa on Sunday morning.

This is the eighth homicide in Durham Region for 2020, said police.

On November 29  at about 10:30 am, members of Central East Division responded to a residential apartment on Simcoe Street near Athol Street in Oshawa for a shooting.

Police arrived to find a 27-year-old Oshawa male without vital signs in an apartment unit. The victim was taken to a local hospital but later died in hospital., police said.

The suspect was located at the scene also suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a Toronto-area trauma hospital where he remains in stable condition. Air1 assisted in searching the rooftops of the scene and a firearm was recovered at the scene.

Noah Renison, age 35, of No Fixed Address is charged with First Degree Murder. He was held for a bail hearing.

This is believed to be an isolated incident and there are no ongoing community safety concerns.

The deceased is identified as Justin Blight, age 27, of Oshawa.
