Driver 80 km/hr over limit… in construction zone

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said it had caught a driver speeding 80km/hr above the maximum speed limit in Oshawa — that too in a construction zone.

“Our Traffic Services officers caught a 27-yr old Oshawa male driving 140 km in a posted 60 km/hr zone,” said a DRPS tweet.

“It was also a construction zone and workers were present,” the tweet said.

“This driver not only faces steep fines but had his Subaru seized and license taken away for 7 days,” the tweet added.

Meanwhile, DRPS said the intersection of Brock Street North ad Taunton Road East in Whitby was reopened last evening following a closure caused by a crash.

“Police are investigating motor vehicle collision at Brock St N/Taunton Rd E in Whitby. Please avoid the area,” said an earlier police tweet.
