The Regional Municipality of Durham yesterday said it is continuing construction for the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit (DSBRT) project on Kingston Road (Durham Regional Highway 2) at intersections between Rotherglen Road and Galea Drive in the Town of Ajax.
Additional lane restrictions, lane shifts and signal changes are being implemented at intersections along the Kingston Road corridor. Work will continue until late spring 2027, at which time the new permanent lane configurations will be implemented. Unfavourable weather conditions may impact the work schedule, the region said.
Works are on Kingston Road at the intersections of Westney Road, Chapman Drive/Ritchie Avenue, Harwood Avenue and Salem Road. In some areas, isolated lane reductions to one lane will be in place.
These are to accommodate centre median bus rapid transit station construction as part of the DSBRT project. Changes to traffic signal timings, which now includes offset left-turn lanes and fully protected left-turn signals, are also being implemented to help improve safety for motorists.
Businesses Remain Open
Bus routes, bus stops, sidewalks and businesses will remain open during regular operating hours for the duration of construction.
The region said it recognizes there may be potential impacts during the work. It realizes that the work may be disruptive and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and work crews.
This project is partially funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP).
