Durham Heath yesterday revised its covid-19 toll for December to 27 deaths in the first nine days of the month – against just five deaths in the whole of November.
It also reported 70 new covid cases for December 9, bringing the region’s total to 5,342 cases since the count began on February 29.
Recoveries stand at 4,381, up by 75. There were 747 active covid cases.
According to Durham Health, there were:
- Twenty-seven new cases in Ajax
- Twenty-three in Oshawa
- Twenty-two in Pickering
- Seven in Whitby
- Six in Clarington, and
- One in Scugog
- Forty cases are under investigation
Thirty-three cases are hospitalized with six in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 714 people in home isolation.
Deaths so far total 214, of which 184 were in long term care homes (LTCH). All new deaths were in LTCHs.
Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,590 in Ajax, followed by 1,250 in Pickering.
Death Toll: Four new deaths added in Whitby and two in Oshawa
Of the 89 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 39 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Twenty-five deaths were reported in Whitby, 21 in LTCH
Of the 32 reported deaths in Oshawa, 24 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
