Durham mayors stress on ‘social distancing’

Durham region mayors have urged residents to take ‘social distancing’ as a serious means to slow and prevent the further spread of Covid-19.
“Oshawa continues to act with an abundance of caution to protect the safety and health of our community members and staff, but we need your help,” says Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter. “To slow the spread of Covid-19, we need to be committed – as a community, a province and a nation – to social distancing.”

He said during this unprecedented time, Oshawa continues to closely monitor developments and take appropriate steps to slow the spread of Covid-19.

“In the past, we have demonstrated the strength and resiliency of our great city. Now is the time to demonstrate that again. This is a time to be flexible, to adjust and to work together. Video chat your family, text your friends, call your neighbours and those you know who are isolated; social distancing does not mean we stop talking to one another,” he said.

“In the wake of all these uncertainties, I know I can count on us walking together through this trying time. We will pull together, support our community members and local businesses who are impacted, and do our part to overcome this global pandemic.”

Update for Wednesday, March 18, 2020, 4 pm.

All of Clarington’s municipal buildings and facilities are closed to the public, but many of the services we offer to our residents are still available. View a full list of services available.

Building permits will continue to be reviewed and processed. Applications can be submitted by regular mail, courier or by email to BuildingPermits@clarington.net. Information on what is required to be submitted with your building permit application can be found on the Building Permit web page.

Clarington Building Officials will not be conducting inspections on projects that contain an occupied dwelling (e.g. finished basement, additions, etc.). When necessary, we will be making special arrangements using video, photos and other means. This is a temporary measure that will be in place until further notice and will be continually monitored as the COVID-19 situation evolves. The Municipality will continue to offer inspections for all other permits.
