Troubled 13-year old on weapons ban held with knife and gun

Durham police yesterday said officers responded to a call at a hotel in Ajax and found a 13-year old boy wielding a knife. They also seized a firearm that belonged to the boy.

At the time of his arrest, the accused was bound by multiple release orders, including a weapons prohibition order.

On Wednesday, September 9, officers from West Division responded to an unknown trouble call at a hotel in the area of Westney Road South and Bayly Street West.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a male armed with a knife and took him into custody without incident.

During the investigation, officers received information that the suspect may have been in possession of a firearm. With the assistance of the DRPS K9 Unit, officers conducted a search of the property. Investigators subsequently located and seized a firearm.

The 13-year-old from Ajax  is charged with: Carry Concealed Weapon; Unauthorized Possession of Restricted Firearm; Possess Loaded Restricted Firearm; Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Device; Possess Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace x2 Possess Firearm While Prohibited x3; Fail to Comply with Release Order x2 and Fail to Comply with Probation Order x4.

He was held for a bail hearing.
