Durham residents help solve a case of fake bills fraud

Durham residents have helped solve a crime with input that led to the arrest of a woman who used fake currency to purchase items at a Homesense in Ajax.

On Tuesday, April 28, around 2 pm, a woman entered the HomeSense located at 125 Harwood Avenue North in Ajax, and purchased items using fraudulent currency, police said.

A short time later the female suspect attended the HomeSense located at 1355 Kingston Road in Pickering, where she returned the fraudulently purchased items for legitimate currency.

On Friday, July 3, the suspect was identified with assistance from a Help Solve a Crime post, and taken into custody in Oshawa.

The 50-year old woman from Pickering was charged and released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.
