Durham sees 15 covid deaths over past week

Durham Heath yesterday revised its covid-19 toll posting 15 deaths for the first week of December. This compares to just five deaths in the whole month of November.

Durham Health reported 91 new covid cases for December 7, bringing the region’s total to 5,213 cases since the count began on February 29.

Recoveries stand at 4,252, up by 116. There are 759 active covid cases in Durham.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • Thirty-seven new cases in Ajax
  • Twenty-five in Oshawa
  • Twenty in Whitby
  • Nineteen in Pickering
  • Three in Clarington, and
  • One in Brock
  • Eighty-three cases are under investigation

Twenty-six cases are hospitalized with five in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 733 people in home isolation.

Deaths so far total 202, of which 172 were in long term care homes (LTCH).

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,547 in Ajax, followed by 1,211 in Pickering.

Death Toll: Two new deaths each added in Whitby and Oshawa

Of the 89 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 39 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Fifteen deaths were reported in Whitby, 11 in LTCH
Of the 29 reported deaths in Oshawa, 21 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
