Durham teen with 3D gun parts makes online threats

Durham police yesterday said a male youth is facing charges following an investigation into alleged online threats.

Police did not elaborate on what were the threats or who they were made against. They only said a 16-year-old male from Pickering is charged with uttering threats, and manufacturing firearm parts.

On Wednesday, September 30, members of the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch began an investigation after receiving information from multiple sources, including international external policing partners, alleging that a youth had made online comments about producing firearms with a 3D printer.

On Thursday, October 1, investigators with the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch with the assistance of the West Crime Team and E-Crimes unit, executed a search warrant at a residence in Pickering.

As a result, various electronic devices, a 3D printer, and an incomplete polymer lower receiver for an Urutau, a 3D-printable semi-automatic firearm were located and seized, police said.

The 16-year old was held for a bail-hearing, police said.

Anyone with cell phone, dash cam, surveillance footage or information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Arshad of the West Division Crime Team at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1905.
