E-scooter crash victim dies, was not wearing a helmet

Durham police yesterday said the male involved in the single motor vehicle collision in Ajax has succumbed to his injuries.

Police said the man was not wearing a helmet at the time of falling off his e-scooter. The name of the deceased has not been released.

On Tuesday September 16 at about 3:15 pm, members from West Division were called to a single motor vehicle collision involving an e-scooter at Kitney Drive just north of Clements Road West in Ajax.

A male was riding a Segway Ninebot Kick Scooter Max G2 northbound along the east side of the roadway when he lost control and fell, causing him to hit his head. He wasn’t wearing a helmet and suffered a serious head injury as a result. He was transported to a local-area hospital in life threatening condition and then air lifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre. He has since succumbed to his injuries.

Members of the DRPS – Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. This collision is still under investigation.
