With more residents choosing electric vehicles (EVs), the Municipality of Clarington yesterday announced it has expanded its network to 36 public charging points across the community – including the municipality’s first Level 3 DC fast charger at the Diane Hamre Recreation Complex in Newcastle.
The municipality received a $120,000 funding allocation towards these new chargers, thanks to Ontario’s EV ChargeON Program. This is in addition to $60,000 in grant funding through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) in 2024.
Thirteen new charging points can be accessed at these locations:
- Courtice Community Complex: 4 Level 2 AC chargers (240V)
- South Courtice Arena: 4 Level 2 AC chargers (240V)
- Newcastle Memorial Park / Newcastle Library: 2 Level 2 AC chargers (240V)
- Diane Hamre Recreation Complex in Newcastle:
- 2 Level 2 AC chargers (240V)
- 1 Level 3 DC fast charger (480V)
“As we invest in EV infrastructure, we’re not just installing chargers — we’re building a more sustainable Clarington. These new stations will help residents make the switch to electric, reduce emissions, and support the future of clean transportation in our community,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.
This expansion supports Clarington’s journey to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, as outlined in the municipality’s Corporate Climate Action Plan.
