Fence gets in the way of impaired driver’s getaway

Durham Police yesterday said a 35-year-old male is facing charges after he fled from police in his vehicle and then on foot.

On October 16 at about 3 am, an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle that was seen driving erratically on the westbound Highway 401 near Liverpool Road in Pickering. The vehicle began to pull over at the side of the highway, but then sped away. The suspect vehicle exited the highway at Whites Road. It continued to travel at high rates of speed as it entered a residential area near Rougemount Drive and Kingston Road, said a police statement.

The vehicle reached a dead-end street at Littleford Street and Rouge Valley Drive. The driver then fled the vehicle on foot. He attempted to climb a fence into a residential backyard but was unsuccessful. Officers caught up to the suspect and placed him under arrest, police said.

Ross Terron, age 35 of Dreyber Court in Pickering, is charged with: Operation of a Motor Vehicle Impaired by Drug; Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance; Flight from Police Officer; Drive Motor Vehicle with No Validation on Plate; and Race a Motor Vehicle in a Community Safety Zone.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to contact Cst. Bisson-Moser of West Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 3727.
