Gun and drugs haul from Oshawa traffic stop

Durham police said a male and a female were arrested for drugs after a traffic stop in Oshawa on Friday, which then led to the discovery of a sawed-off shotgun.

On May 15 at about 5 pm, a member of Central East Division stopped a white Nissan Rogue near Bloor Street West and Stevenson Road South in Oshawa. Drugs, drug paraphernalia and open liquor was observed in the vehicle. During the investigation, officers located a sawed-off shotgun, pellet gun, ammunition and a small amount of drugs which were seized from the vehicle, police said.

David Kovacs, age 41, of Tecumseh Avenue in Oshawa and Jan Godfrey, age 42 of No Fixed Address, face a combined 23 charges including: Careless Storage of a Firearm; Careless Storage of Ammunition; Possession of a Prohibited Firearm; Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm; Possession of a Schedule I Substance (methamphetamine); Possession of a Schedule II Substance (morphine) and Operate Motor Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available.

They were both held for a bail hearing.
