Handgun seized during fraud investigation

Durham police investigators from the Financial Crimes Unit seized a handgun, ammunition and cash during a search warrant in Oshawa.

On April 6, members of the Financial Crimes Unit executed a search warrant for an ongoing fraud investigation from February 2020. The investigation involved the fraudulent purchase of furniture from a store in Scarborough with counterfeit identification, police said.

During the search warrant, investigators located a handgun, ammunition and Canadian currency inside the residence, in addition to the furniture that had been illegally obtained. The evidence was seized and both suspects were arrested, it added.

JJ Feix, age 30, of Deputy Minister Path in Oshawa is charged with: Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000; Careless Storage of a Firearm; Contravention of Storage Regulations; Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Firearm; Possession of a Firearm Knowing It’s Possession is Unauthorized; Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5,000; Breach Probation and Breach of Recognizance x2. He was held for a bail hearing.

Samantha Santos, age 31 of Goodwood Drive in Markham is charged with: Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000; Careless Storage of a Firearm; Contravention of Storage Regulations; Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Firearm x2; Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5,000and Breach Probation. She was released on an Undertaking.
