Highway 401 to be fully closed tonight in Whitby

The Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) has scheduled a full closure of Highway 401 (between Thickson Road and Lake Ridge Road) for this weekend (October 5 to 6).

The Town of Whitby also announced that Brock Street (between Consumers Drive and the Whitby GO Station Access) will also be closed for this weekend (October 5 to 6).

The closure is needed during the demolition of part of the Brock Street bridge over Highway 401, as part of the multi-year Brock Street bridge replacement being led by the MTO.

Closure details, as provided by the MTO, are as follows:

Highway 401 (between Thickson Road and Lake Ridge Road)

Lane restrictions starting at 8 pm on Saturday, October 5, with all lanes expected to be fully closed by 11:30 pm. Lanes will begin re-opening starting at 8:30 am on Sunday, October 6, and should be fully re-opened by approximately 10 am.

Note: the Highway 401 Eastbound Off-ramp to Brock Street and Highway 401 Westbound On-ramp from Consumers Drive (east of Brock Street) will also be closed during this time.

Brock Street (between Consumers Drive and Whitby GO Station Access)

Lane restrictions beginning at 8 pm on Saturday, October 5, with a full closure by 10 pm. Lanes will begin re-opening starting at 8:30 am on Sunday, October 6, and should be fully re-opened by approximately 10 am.

Note: pedestrian sidewalks along both sides of this section of Brock Street will be inaccessible during the above closure period. The east sidewalk will be re-opened by approximately 10 am on Sunday, October 6; however, the west sidewalk will remain closed as it is still under construction.

MTO has advised that these closures are subject to inclement weather or modification due to construction operations.
