Hit-and-run driver leaves woman cyclist dead

A 36-year-old female resident from Oshawa succumbed to her injuries after a fail to remain collision that occurred in Oshawa yesterday morning, Durham Police said.

On November 22 at 4:00 am, members of Central West Division were called to a fatal collision at the intersection of Stevenson Road and Laval Drive in Oshawa. A passing motorist located a person on the ground south of the intersection with a severely damaged bicycle nearby.

First responders attended the scene within minutes and provided medical assistance to the female. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The female was pronounced dead shortly after, said a media release.

Members of the DRPS – Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.

No Witnesses

There are no witnesses to this incident at this time. The suspect vehicle and driver remain outstanding. It is believed that the suspect vehicle will have significant front end damage.

The identification of the female victim was confirmed by her family, but her name is being withheld at the request of the family.

Investigators are urging the suspect to obtain a lawyer and turn himself in. Anyone with information, including dash-cam video of the incident, or who was in the area at the time of the fatal collision is asked to call police.
